The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday questioned what is wrong with selling movie tickets online. It is known that the YSRCP government issued an order that film tickets will be sold through the Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation in order to control tax evasion.
Dealing with a petition filed against the same, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice N Jayasurya observed that the sale of film tickets online does not violate the fundamental rights of anyone.
The court has made it clear that a further inquiry will be held after the government files its counter. Prakash Reddy, senior counsel for the theatre owners, said that Section 5 (a) of the Act has been amended to allow tickets to be sold online. He explained that if the government sells tickets online, it will lead to a monopoly. He said the decision was a drain on the fundamental rights of theatre owners. However, the HC questioned what would be the deprivation of fundamental rights in this. The bench adjourned the case hearings to February 21.
