Varun Tej’s latest film “Matka” is reportedly inspired by the life of ‘Matka King’ Ratan Khatri, a key figure in India’s gambling scene during the 1960s to 1980s. Ratan Khatri, renowned for his control over the Matka industry, notably founded ‘Ratan Matka’ after parting ways with Kalyanji Bhagat.
The movie, directed by Karuna Kumar, isn’t a complete biopic but draws from pivotal moments in Khatri’s life. Matka gambling, involving drawing lots from a pot, was immensely lucrative, with daily turnovers reaching crores.
Khatri’s influence extended beyond gambling, he even co-produced the Bollywood film “Rangeela Ratan” and had connections in the entertainment industry. The teaser, titled “Opening Bracket,” featuring Varun Tej, has already garnered a positive response, hinting at anticipation for the film’s release.
