We all have experienced the trend of the Telangana movement and the samaikyandhra movements a few years back and after the state bifurcation, the separate Telangana state fell into the hands of the KCR. Many people say that the inability of the opposition leader Chandra Babu and the Congress’ vulnerability at the center made Andhra Pradesh split into two states.
In that note, after the bifurcation, a new movement was started in the Andhra state. The name ‘Greater Rayalaseema’ evolved out of nowhere as many leaders from Rayalaseema demanded for a special state taking inspiration from the citizens of the fellow state. There are only 4 districts in Rayalaseema and hence they also included Nellore and Prakasham in it demanding a special statehood for the 6 districts.
Former MP from Kurnool Gangula Pratap Reddy, former minister in Kadapa district Mysura Reddy, former DGP from Nellore district Dinesh Reddy and others made huge statements at the time. But no one cared for the outcome yet. Apparently, those who campaigned in the name of the movement were politically unemployed.
In fact Gangula and Mysore have no political designation as of now. Dinesh Reddy is a retired bureaucrat but not a political leader. Moreover, none of the leaders who campaigned in the Greater Movement were active leaders. Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy from Kurnool also rushed to talk about the movement but no one cared. So, it seems this is an end card for the ‘Greater Rayalaseema Movement’ as of now.
