Violence erupted in the fourth phase of elections in the Coochbehar constituency of West Bengal. Five people were killed in the incident. Anand Burman, a voter, was shot dead outside a polling booth in Sitalkuchi by assailants. However, it seems that the firing took place during a clash between BJP and Trinamool leaders. The Election Commission has sought a report on the incident.
However, the Trinamool Congress has expressed concern over the death toll in the incidents. Trinamool leader Dola Sen said the Election Commission was condemning the actions of the central forces, adding that all those who lost their lives in the incidents were their party supporters and four others were injured. He expressed deep condolences to the family members of the deceased. He said that BJP should stop such types of anarchies.
