A major hurdle has reportedly impacted the production of Varanasi, the much-anticipated film directed by S. S. Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu. The film’s team is said to have faced an unexpected setback in Hyderabad after the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) declined their request for a large number of water tankers required for a key sequence.
According to sources, the filmmakers had planned an extensive water-based scene on a specially constructed set located on the outskirts of the city. To execute the technically demanding underwater sequences, the production team requested around 150 water tankers to create and maintain an artificial water setup. However, the request was reportedly turned down by the water board, disrupting the preparations for this crucial portion of the shoot.
The team had already made significant arrangements, including building a dedicated infrastructure for the water sequences. The denial has now put pressure on the schedule, as the scene was considered an important part of the film’s visual storytelling. While alternative options are likely being explored, the delay could impact the production timeline.
Varanasi has been generating strong buzz due to its scale, unique concept, and the collaboration between Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu. Despite this temporary setback, expectations remain high as the team works to overcome the challenge and resume filming.
