Vishnu Manchu’s dream project Kannappa is all set to hit theatres on June 27, and the excitement is palpable. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Dr. M. Mohan Babu under AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory, the film has already created significant buzz with its trailer, teaser, and songs. Ahead of the release, the film team interacted with the media in Hyderabad on Thursday.
Speaking at the press meet, Vishnu Manchu expressed his deep emotional connection with the project. He said over one lakh tickets had already been sold even before release, which he believes is due to Lord Shiva’s blessings.
“There was a time when no one expected so much positivity around Kannappa. That wasn’t their fault. But today, the film is surrounded by complete positive energy. I want families to enjoy this film comfortably, which is why we haven’t increased ticket prices, except in a few places in Andhra Pradesh. This is also a film made keeping children in mind,” said Vishnu.
He also emphasized that there were no financial obstacles during the making of the film. “Thanks to my father Mohan Babu garu, and my brothers Vijay and Vinay, everything went smoothly. I didn’t struggle like my team did. They worked really hard to bring this vision to life.”
Vishnu shared a personal highlight — all four of his children have acted in the film. “As a father, I feel proud and emotional watching them on screen. Whether they become artists in the future is up to time, but I am happy they were part of this journey.”
He added that the team is planning special screenings, including a 2 AM show in Karnataka, and a wide release in Kerala. The film will not stream on OTT platforms for 10 weeks after its theatrical release, as the focus remains on the theatre experience.
“I want to make one thing clear — this film doesn’t disrespect any community or belief system. The message is simple: there is no need for intermediaries or blind beliefs between a devotee and God. True devotion is enough,” said Vishnu. He also teased that Mohanlal’s character in the film will come as a major surprise to audiences.
He concluded with a powerful statement: “Kannappa is not a myth — it’s our history. He truly lived among us and is still worshipped. This film is a tribute to that legacy.”
Director Mukesh Kumar Singh, speaking at the event, said, “We’ve made this film with sincerity and dedication. I’m thankful to Mohan Babu garu and Vishnu garu for trusting me with such a significant story. We wanted to tell the journey of a man who once didn’t believe in God, and how he became one of Lord Shiva’s greatest devotees. Now, it’s in the audience’s hands.”
Cinematographer Sheldon Chau highlighted the emotional depth of the film, especially the climax, which he said will move viewers to tears.
Actor Siva Balaji shared his experience of shooting in New Zealand, calling it one of the most beautiful places on Earth. “This film is grand and emotionally rich. I’ve seen it already — and I’m confident it will leave a big impact.”
Kaushal, another key actor in the film, added, “After nearly 50 years, Kannappa’s story is being brought back to the big screen. Vishnu has created a visual wonder for today’s generation.”
With its rich visuals, emotional core, and spiritual depth, Kannappa is shaping up to be a unique devotional epic. All eyes are now on June 27, when the film finally arrives in theatres.
