After announcing his resignation from the India T20 team captaincy, Virat Kohli has shocked his fans by stepping down as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the Indian Premier League.
The Indian batting maestro announced on Sunday that this will be his last IPL as captain of RCB. However, Virat said that he will continue to be an RCB player till he plays his last IPL game.
“This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me,” Virat Kohli said in a statement.
“I have spoken to the squad. It was something that was on my mind as I recently announced stepping down as T20 captain to manage my workload, which has been immense,” he added.
Virat Kohli has been associated with RCB since the inception of IPL in 2008. He has become a colossal figure in franchise history. Kohli has been the face and leader of the team since taking over as skipper in the middle of the 2012 season.
