Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli achieved another massive milestone in his T20 carrier as he became just the second batsman to hit 1000 runs in T20 World Cups. He broke this record after scoring 12 runs against South Africa in today’s match in Australia to join the Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene on the prestigious list.
While Virat scored 1,001 runs at an average of 83.41 in 24 matches across 22 innings, Mahela Jayawardene scored 1,016 runs at an average of 39.07 in 31 matches. The Indian batter has twelve half-centuries from T20 World cup events and his highest score in the tournament is 89*.
On the other hand, Kohli also holds the record for the most runs scored in T20 internationals, with 3868 runs to his name. He is followed by India captain Rohit Sharma in the second spot.
