When Charminar, Ravindra Bharati, and Hitech City were sold off to an individual in a movie, it was considered to be funny and hilarious. But what if the same situation arises in real life? Well, that’s exactly what’s happening now with Vijayawada Railway Station.
The Vijayawada Railway station has a special place of all railway stations, and is always busy with incoming and outgoing trains round the year, no matter what. The station’s revenue is so high that the expenditure of the railway station is nothing compared to the revenue. Considering this, it is a surprise why the Union Railway Ministry has decided to sell this Railway station to private parties.
Instead of saying that they are selling the railway station to private parties, the government has come up with a plan where it would say that it is giving the railway station for a lease of 99 years to the private parties, after which it would revert back to the government. This would mean that the railway station would belong and would not belong to the government at the same time.
This is not the first time that the Vijayawada Railway Station has been up for sale. In the past too, the station was planned to be sold off, but only for a 30-year lease. As a result, no one showed interest in the deal. With the lease now being for 99 years, there is a good chance that a deal will be finalized this time around. Interestingly enough, there are only two companies in the country that are capable of buying the Vijayawada railway station or any other station or port or airport for that matter. For a long time now, these Gujarati companies have had their eyes on properties in Andhra Pradesh, and now it seems like the time has finally come.
