India’s renowned publicity and movie poster designer Eswara Rao aka Eswar has passed away on Tuesday morning. He was 84.
As per reports, Eswar breathed his last due to health issues in Chennai. He moved from Andhra Pradesh’s Palakollu to Chennai quite early in life, chasing his dream of being an artist.
Veteran filmmaker Bapu signed Eswar in 1967 for his directorial debut movie “Sakshi”. The posters of the movie caught the attention of then producer Nagi Reddy, and he immediately approached Eswar to design posters for the Hindi film “Ram Aur Shyam”.
Eswar worked as a poster designer for four decades in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. He designed for over 2,600 films and worked with big banners like Gemini, AVM, Annapurna, Suresh Productions, Geetha Arts, Vyjayanthi and Vijaya.
Eswar won Nandi Award in 2011 in the Best Book category for his book, ‘Cinema Poster’. He also received the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award from the Andhra Pradesh government in 2015.
