After taking a brief break, Tejas Kancharla is back on the big screen with Uruku Patela, which was released today in theaters for Vinayaka Chavithi. How does this new release fare? What’s the story behind it? Let’s dive into the review and find out.
Story
Patela (Tejas Kancharla), the son of village head Uri Sarpanch Ramaraj (Goparaju Ramana), dreams of marrying an educated woman. However, in his village, most girls drop out of school by the seventh grade to get married, and even those from nearby villages are hesitant to pursue further education. Amidst this, Patela meets Dr. Akshara (Khushboo Chaudhary) at a friend’s wedding, and she quickly falls in love with him. But what drew Akshara to Patela? Despite his feelings for her, why does Patela refuse to marry Akshara? And why does he flee from Akshara’s hospital on her birthday? To uncover the answers to these questions, you’ll have to watch the film.
What about on-screen performances?
Tejas Kancharla shines as a charming lead in Uruku Patela. He impresses with his looks and carries a confident swag as a Telangana youth throughout the first half.
Even in scenes requiring low energy, Tejas plays them smartly. Post-interval, he gets more opportunities to showcase his acting skills, especially in tense moments, which he handles very well, doing justice to his role.
Khushboo Chaudhary makes her Telugu cinema debut in this film, captivating audiences with both her beauty and acting, leaving a mark on the youth. Chammak’ Chandra’s is cheap and over the top.
Ananda Chakrapani, known for playing fatherly roles in films like Mallesham, appears in a fresh avatar in Uruku Patela, delivering a different and notable performance. Goparaju Ramana also plays the hero’s father effectively.
What about off-screen talents?
Uruku Patela is a film that blends romance and thriller elements. The promotional material gave away little, but the true essence of the story and the significance behind the title started to unfold just before the interval.
While the first half is light-hearted, filled with love and comedy, the real twist comes before the interval, setting the stage for a suspenseful second half. The film wraps up with a thoughtful message about superstitions.
Uruku Patela’s plot hinges on two key twists, one before the interval and another before the climax, both of which were well-executed by director Vivek Reddy. However, the scenes in between lack strength and depth.
Vivek Reddy’s story combines love, father-son emotions, twists, and comedy. The casting is well done, but the writing and direction fall short of delivering engaging scenes.
The film touches on superstitions, but only on a surface level, causing many scenes to feel shallow and uninteresting. Additionally, Goparaju Ramana’s talent was underutilized.
Praveen Lakkaraju’s music is average, without leaving a lasting impression. The production values are not that great and the screenplay is dull. The film required heavy editing in the second half to make the film crisp.
What’s Hot?
- Tejas Performance
- Two twists
- Basic plot idea
What’s Not?
- Slow pace
- Predictable ending
- Lacks grip in screenplay
- Weak emotions
Verdict
Overall, Uruku Patela has a sincere performance from Tejas Kancharla. But the narrative is jaded and half-baked. The film is slow and bores the audience with its predictable storyline. Apart from a few thrills, this film has nothing new to offer.
