Unmukt Chand has become the first Indian male cricketer to enrol in the Big Bash League. He is all set to feature in the Melbourne Renegades side in the upcoming edition. Chand has signed for the 2021-2022 season which begins next month.
“It’s great to have Unmukt on board, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do as a Renegade,” said Melbourne Renegades manager James Rosengarten.
“He makes history as the first Indian player in the BBL, which is exciting for our club, our fans and the competition,” Rosengarten added.
The 28-year-old former Indian Premier League (IPL) player has represented three IPL franchises during his career — Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. He also captained India A and India U19.
For the unversed, Chand retired from Indian cricket this year and has been playing in the United States since then. Notably, Indian male international and domestic players are barred from playing overseas domestic leagues.
