Hyderabad’s Gandhi hospital is a place where hundreds of patients come and go on a regular basis. Now, a tragic incident took place at the hospital, which is at the heart of the capital.
Not only on the roads, in movie theatres but also in the hospitals, women are being molested. The gang-rape of a woman and her sister, who came to the hospital with a kidney-damaged patient, has caused a stir in the city.
A man from Mahabubnagar district was rushed to Gandhi Hospital on the 4th of this month to undergo treatment for kidney damage. Uma Maheshwar, an assistant in the radiology department at the same Gandhi Hospital, is said to be the distant relative of the patient. The patient was assisted by his wife and the latter’s sister.
As per the reports, Uma Maheshwar took the women to a room earlier this month and drugged them. They were gang-raped by the radiographer, along with four others. He threatened to kill the victims if they reported this incident to anyone. The next day, the two of them were taken to a darkroom in the cellar and again raped by the gang. Later, they were taken to various parts of the city.
The victim’s son, who could not find his mother and aunt, went to the hospital on Sunday evening to know where they were. During their search, the boy’s aunt was found unconscious with a rag on her body. The complaint was lodged at Chilakalguda police station. After registering the case, the police arrested Uma Maheshwar and six others.
