The partition of Telangana state that happened a few years back made the financial status of the Andhra Pradesh very weak and since then, the things run in the state in a wobbling way. The treasury couldn’t meet all the purposes such as giving salaries to employees, implementing welfare schemes e.t.c and the liquor sales are coming in aid at every crisis period.
Now, the AP government lacks the revenue from liquor from the last 2 months, and now, as they started to make the most of the lockdown exemptions, two problems arose for the AP CM to spoil all his plannings. When liquor sales were prohibited, adulterated alcohol, popularly known as ‘Saara’ was sold at the state borders and many shops were opened.
Now, to compensate the loss, Jagan government has increased the price of the alcohol by 75% and the people who used to drink cheap liquor are getting attracted to these ‘Saara Shops’ which is a challenge for the AP excise department who lack adequate staff to restrict the sale of adulterated alcohol.
On the other side, the liquor Mafia which evolved when the AP government increased the prices is also doing a lot of damage for the AP government. From, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Orissa, Telangana illegal liquor is entering AP to loot the income that actually belongs to the AP government. So, Jagan needs to do something about these two things before something irreparable happens.
