The government of India recently passed a set of new IT regulations which make it mandatory for every social media platform to appoint a Regional Grievance Officer(RGO). The RGO will have to monitor the complaints raised by the users of the platform and do the needful if any post violates social peace or offends another person.
Interestingly enough, micro-blogging platform Twitter took its own sweet time to appoint a RGO. The platform recently asked the Delhi High Court 8 weeks time to take necessary action.
After much deliberation, Twitter finally announced Vinay Prakash, an Indian resident as its RGO.
This development comes after the Delhi High Court reprimanded Twitter for not appointing an RGO despite repeated appeals from the government of India.
Twitter also provided an email address, to which the users can send grievances and complaints.
