The Telangana High Court seriously reprimanded the Telangana government for not appointing the chairman and members of Telangana Telangana State Public Service Commission, following which the Chief Minister of the state, KCR, appointed the members of the TSPSC today.
Senior IAS officer Dr B Janardhan Reddy, who is presently working as Principal Secretary (Agriculture), has been appointed as the TSPSC Chairman, making him the first IAS officer to head the TSPSC, which is a statutory body. The other members of the TSPSC include Ramavath Dhan Singh, Retired Engineer-in-Chief, Professor B Lingareddy, Prof and Head Depart of Physics, CBIT, Kotla Aruna Kumari, Special Grade Deputy Collector, Sumithra Anand Tanoba, a Telugu Pandit, Karam Ravinder Reddy, retired government employee, Aravelli Chandrashekhar Rao, Ayurvedic Doctor, R Satyanarayana, Journalist.
The orders were approved by Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, following which Chief Secretary Sri Somesh Kumar issued these orders. On April 21st, the High Court bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy warned the government that it should fill the TSPSC positions within four weeks and that if they were not made, a judicial order would be passed to wind up the institution so that the commission’s premises could be used for better purposes.
These orders came after a public interest litigation (PIL) petition was filed by one J Shankar, who pointed out to the HC that the TSPSC posts were kept vacant for over 8 months.
