U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced a new initiative encouraging undocumented immigrants to leave the country voluntarily. Through an executive order, he unveiled a self-deportation program under the “Project Homecoming” banner. The initiative offers $1,000 in federal assistance to individuals who choose to self-deport with government support.
Trump emphasized that those remaining illegally may face strict consequences, including abrupt deportation, asset seizure, wage garnishment, imprisonment, and other legal actions at the government’s discretion.
Close to 1,000 people have reportedly signed up since the program’s launch. Trump’s administration intends to promote this self-deportation message nationwide, reinforcing his commitment to remove millions of unauthorized immigrants.
Reports indicate that individuals from countries like India, Mexico, China, and others have already been repatriated via special flights.
Despite this push, immigrant rights groups have condemned the $1,000 offer and urged undocumented individuals to seek legal counsel before taking any action. Additionally, Trump plans to deploy 20,000 officers to enforce deportations.
