The various OTT platforms that are ruling the roost in India, and in Tollywood currently, all looked like a knight in shining armor during the pandemic, when a lot of movies were stuck because of the lockdown. They offered huge amounts to producers, to get the exclusive rights to stream a film on their platform.
This trend continued until recently when the OTT platforms were still willing to buy the exclusive rights to stream a film. However, the trend has now changed drastically, with OTT platforms unwilling to extend the same privileges as earlier. They are now demanding that a movie be released in theatres first before it can be released on streaming platforms.
This is not the case with one or two OTT platforms, but with every OTT platform currently. Even Rana Daggubati’s recently released Virata Parvam had the same conditions for the movie to be able to be streamed on Netflix. WIth OTT platforms making their rules strict, it is going to be a tough market for producers here on.
