Do you remember Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Abhilasha, which was released in 1983? The film created a box office storm and became a huge milestone in the actors, director, writer, and producer’s career.

Abhilasha, which featured Chiranjeevi and Radhika in lead roles, was written by novel writer Yandamuri Veerendranath, bankrolled by K.S Rama Rao, helmed by Kodanda Rami Reddy. Chiru was seen in a challenging role of a lawyer, who dreams of abolishing Death Sentence in Indian Law, in the film. Well, now let’s dive a little deeper into the flashback; how Abhilasha happened and how it came to Chiru’s kitty. To know more, read on!

Thirty days ago, after a long shooting schedule, Chiru returned home during the night. He noticed that his mom Anjana Devi reading a novel at that time. After sometime also, he observed that his mom still reading the same book with so much interest and got surprised.

Then Chiru sat next to her mom and asked, “Mom, I’ve been observing from the past two hours, you are reading the same book, is that novel so good?”

Anjana Devi apparently said, “Shankaram (Chiru’s original name), the story called Abhilasha is very interesting and the lead role has your name. It was written by Yandamuri Veerendranath.”

Chiru thrilled and asked his mom about the specialty of the story. Then his mom said, “I have been imagining you in the story while reading this story. If anyone shows interest to rope you in the film, please accept it, this story will become a blockbuster.” Chiru nodded his head and said yes to his mom.

A few months later, K.S. Rama Rao approached Chiranjeevi that he wanted him to produce a film with Chiru in the lead role and also admitted that he has got a good story. Later, K.S. Rama Rao handed a Novel to Chiru. After seeing the cover page, Chiru apparently surprised as he saw the cover page of the same book and was surprised again! It was Yandamuri’s Abhilasha. Chiru remembered his mom’s advice and immediately agreed to do the film. Kodanda Rami Reddy was roped in to direct the film. The film started its shoot and also released in no time.

That is the story behind the mega-blockbuster Abhilasha!

Do you know?

It is heard that while canning the film in Vizag, a youngster used to come every day to watch the shooting and he is none other than our very own iSmart director Puri Jagannadh, who used to lie at his home saying he is attending EAMCET coaching to watch the film’s shooting!
