One more Omicron variant case has been reported in India. As per reports, a 72-year-old man, who returned from Zimbabwe to Jamnagar two days ago, tested positive for the newly discovered variant of Coronavirus.
After the person tested positive for the deadly during airport screening, the officials sent his sample for genome sequencing to a lab in Pune. The genome sequencing revealed that he was infected with the Omicron variant.
This is the third confirmed case of Omicron variant in India. Earlier, two cases of Omicron were identified in Karnataka. The first patient, a 66-year-old, came from South Africa on November 20 and left the country seven days later. The second patient is a health care worker and has no travel history, said government sources.
Meanwhile, India reported 8,603 fresh cases of Coronavirus infections on Saturday. The tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 3,46,24,360, but active cases declined to 99,974. The total number of vaccine doses administered in the country so far has exceeded 126.53 crore.
