Vijay Deverakonda and Parasuram have come together again after blockbuster Geetha Govindam. The latest outing from the proven combination is Family Star and it hit the theaters today. Let us see what the film has to offer to the audience.

Story: Govardhan(Vijay Deverakonda) is a middle-class man who is struggling to make ends meet and his life takes an interesting turn after meeting Mrunal Thakur. But Mrunal comes into his life with a purpose. What’s that purpose? How does it affect their relationship?

How did the actors perform?

Vijay Deverakonda plays a stereotypical middle-class guy character that doesn’t challenge the actor in him. He got the demeanor and body language right for the role. His commercial antics are good as he delivers a fine performance. Mrunal Thakur looks gorgeous on screen. The rest of the cast deliver whatever is expected of them.

What about the off screen talents?

Parasuram picks a commercially drenched subject and his narration is a mixed bag. The hassles of a middle-class family are used to generate comedy and this works to a minor extent. But the issue is with the monotonous narrative in both the halves where the screenplay goes awry for most part. While there isn’t a strong story behind the wheel, a lot depends on screenplay and presentation which aren’t of satisfactory quality in this case. The character drive of the main lead is messed up with random presentation in the latter half. Comparatively, the second half starts well but it too goes awry after a point. The ending is pretentious.

Music by Gopi Sundar is alright. The Kalyani Vacha song looks decent on screen and the rest are passable. The background score works in bits and pieces. Cinematography is of standard quality. Dil Raju’s production values are expectedly good.

What’s Hot?

  • Vijay’s middle-class antics
  • Mrunal Thakur
  • A couple of breezy comedy blocks

What’s Not?

  • Monotonous approach
  • Lagged second half
  • No proper story drive

Verdict: Family Star is a middling commercial potboiler that revolves around middle class emotions and related comical scenarios. The narration is uneven in both halves. It could be categorised as a routine summer commercial film that has its own highs and lows.

7.00 PM: Movie opens with Mrunal Thakur telling her flash back, Govardhan(Vijay Devarkonda ) gets a simple introduction (Similar to RP character in Appula Apparao).. Dirrector tried some comedy, but in vain..

7.30 PM: Goverdhan has two elder brothers, he takes care of his family and very protective and stingy. Indu(Mrunal) rents his pent house. Movie works out in parts until now..

8.00 PM: chemistry betwen Vijay and Mrunal is good..movie picked up little but and some emotional scenes are on between them

First half report: First half is not bad for sure..first 40 mins there is no story but it picks up from there and the last 20 mins of first half is good..comedy is ok in parts..we need to see how the 2nd half fares..

Final report : Overall family star movie is a mediocre romantic family drama that starts off okayish but falls flat later on. Although the chemistry between the lead pair is ok, the conflict point is not strong/dealt convincingly by the director.Murnal is ok, Vijay compensated with his performance for the flat 2nd half. Keep your expectations in check
