The relations between both the Telugu states’ governments are currently not at their best, with both the states at war with each other over the Krishna River water dispute. The Telangana government is against the construction of the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project, while the AP government is against the Telangana government’s usage of water for the generation of hydel power.
These tensions have now escalated, with both the governments deploying Police force at dams and power stations. The Telangana government deployed police force on the borders of the state, at Suryapet district, while the AP government deployed its force at the Pulichintala project. The Telangana police even prevented the entry of several Andhra officials to meet with the Chief of POwer generation, as they wanted to submit a memorandum.
The AP government has already registered a complaint on this issue, with the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, and in the recently held cabinet meeting, AP CM Jagan even said that he would write a letter to the Prime Minister on the issue. On the other hand, Telangana’s tourism minister Srinivas Goud said that the comments that the Ministers of AP made were utterly objectionable, and said that the works on the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project should be stopped immediately.
