The Telangana government’s ambitious ‘Medicine From The Sky’ project is set to launch on the 11th of this month. Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with state minister KTR, will begin the process of delivering the vaccine by drone from district centres to primary health centres.
The state government will on Thursday hold a trial run of delivering medicines and vaccines using drones. The project will be launched on Saturday at the Vikarabad district headquarters. The police department monitors the flight of drones until they reach their destinations and their protection.
Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, who oversaw the arrangements for this event, inspected the meeting place, the drone flying area, the media gallery etc. and directed the officials to make all the preparations.
On the first two days, the drones will be flying in the visual line of sight – between 500 and 700 metres from the base – and people present in the area will be able to see them with the naked eye, the government said in the statement.
From September 11 onwards, drone flights will take place Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) – for 9-10 km distances. These flights will be with consignments of vaccines, medical samples and other healthcare items, the statement further said.
