Popular OTT platform Netflix made a documentary web series called ‘Bad Boy Billionaires’, which includes the lives of liquor baron Vijay Mallya, diamantaire Nirav Modi, Sahara India Group chief Subrata Roy and Satyam Computers founder Ramalinga Raju. This was initially slated to release on September 2nd, but the release has been postponed because Raju had expressed objection over the webseries.
Raju had approached a City Civils court, which had passed a judgement objecting the release of the web series on Netflix. Netflix has then approached the Telangana High Court, where Netflix counsel Neeraj Kishan Kaul argued that the webseries had been made with whatever information was already public.
Kaul also said that the documentary would have no impact over Raju’s plea in the Supreme Court, against his conviction. The Satyam Computers scam came to light on January 7, 2009, when Raju confessed that the company’s accounts were inflated to show a higher profit than reality. Raju and several others were sentenced to 7 years of prison in 2015, but were released on bail in 2018.
The Telangana High Court, after having heard what the Netflix attorney had to say, has asked Raju to file a counter affidavit, stating his reasons as well. In the meantime, the HC has agreed to watch the webseries and come to a decision of releasing it or not, after they have watched it and made up their minds.
