The Telangana High Court has clarified that private schools have to abide by the orders of the Supreme Court. The High Court on Tuesday heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Hyderabad School Parents Association (HSPA) on fees and online classes in private schools.
Counsel for the petitioner contended that the fees were being charged contrary to government orders. The petitioner brought to the notice of the High Court that 219 students who had not paid their fees were not being taught classes online.
The High Court ordered the withdrawal of the 10 percent fee hike and directed the schools to comply with government regulations. The HC asked the school management to disclose the details about how much percentage of the fee is reduced.
The High Court questioned how online classes could be stopped if fees were not paid. The HC ruled that the suspension of online classes would deprive children of their right to education. It questioned how even a non-profit society can deal with corporate entities.
