Team India has registered a historic win at Lord’s by 151 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series against England. Registering a win for the ages at Lord’s is indeed a memorable moment for Virat Kohli led squad.
At one stage, it almost looked impossible for the visitors to win the match. But heaps of wickets made sure the visitors come out with an incredible win at the Mecca of Cricket.
Aiming for a draw, India continued their second innings with an overnight score of 181/6 on Monday under adverse conditions. Shami (56 not out off 70 balls) and Bumrah (34 not out off 64 balls) batted brilliantly as India declared at 298/8. With Siraj (4/32), Bumrah (3/33) and Ishant (2/13) booming, England collapsed to 120 in 51.5 overs. Root (33 off 60 balls) is the top scorer. KL Rahul won the Man of the Match award.
England, with a target of 272 runs, played only for the draw. The score at one stage was 44/2. But Ishant raised India’s hopes abruptly. England was at 67/4 at tea time. When the hosts were under a lot of pressure, team India tightened their grip on the match.
The main obstacle to India’s quest for victory is skipper Joe Root. But he made India’s chances of victory more realistic by offering his wicket for a neat delivery in the first over after the break. But Buttler fought alongside Moin Ali patiently and melted the overs. With a decent and consistent line and length, India managed to win the match at Lord’s.
