The Telugu Desam Party made a surprising announcement, by declaring its withdrawal from contesting in the upcoming municipal elections, from Chittoor district’s Punganuru.
The SEC granted the TDP permission to file its nominations only in 3 wards in the city, and has granted the TDP to file its nominations in the 9th, 14th and 28th wards of Punganuru. Other than that, the SEC hans’t given the TDP to file nominations in any other wards.
Following the incidents that took place in the past, regarding the nominations, the SEC has given another chance to the TDP to file its nominations, but the TDP didn’t go forward to file any nominations the second time around.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the municipal elections came to a sudden stop last year. The SEC is now resuming these municipal elections from where they were halted last year, and as part of that, the procedure for the withdrawal of nominations has been started from today.
Nomination withdrawal procedure has been started in 12 corporations, 75 municipalities and other gram panchayats of the state today. This procedure is being carried on amidst tight security, and the nomination papers from over a year ago are being dusted out and looked at, curretnyl.
