The Telugu Desam Party, the main opposition party of Andhra Pradesh, has today announced that it is officially withdrawing from the Bdvel by-polls. The TDP Politburo, at its meeting chaired by president N Chandrababu Naidu, took the decision on Sunday, to honour its tradition of not contesting in the elections, if the widow of the MLA whose death has led to the by-elections, is fielded as the candidate of the other party. State president K Atchannaidu made this announcement to the media today, after the TDP’s Politburo meeting concluded.
The TDP had announced its candidate even before the Election Commission of India announced the by-polls. The TDP announced Obulapuram Rajasekhar, who lost the 2019 election, for the by-poll contest. The by-polls are set to take place on October 30th.
On the other hand, the Jana Sena too is not taking part in the Badvel by-polls, while the BJP, an ally of Jana Sena’s, is going ahead with contesting in the by-polls. The nomination process for the Badvel by-polls is currently going on and will end on October 8th.
