Vasireddy Padma, one of the rare leaders from the Kamma community in the YSR Congress, is preparing to leave the party and join the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). She has already met Vijayawada TDP MP Kesineni Chinni and is expected to officially join the party on December 9 in the presence of Nara Lokesh.
However, this transition is not being wholeheartedly welcomed by some sections of TDP supporters, particularly on social media.
The main concern among these supporters stems from Padma’s past criticisms of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. During her tenure in YSR Congress, she frequently voiced sharp criticisms against him, often making remarks that offended TDP loyalists. After the 2019 elections, her comment suggesting that Naidu should remain silent and stay home caused significant displeasure within TDP circles.
Some believe Padma’s vocal criticism was encouraged by the YSR Congress leadership, given her prominence as a Kamma leader. She was often placed in the spotlight to counter TDP narratives.
Now, Padma appears to be disillusioned with the YSR Congress and is set to shift her allegiance to the TDP. Despite resistance from hardcore party loyalists, her entry into TDP seems inevitable. Given her strong oratory skills and understanding of YSR Congress’s strategies, she might soon take on the role of critiquing Jagan Mohan Reddy’s governance, potentially adding value to the TDP’s political arsenal.
