Vinothraj PS’s Koozhangal (Pebbles) has won the coveted Tiger Award at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam. Produced by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, it is the first Tamil film to win this prestigious honour.
The film premiered at the Rotterdam festival on Thursday. Koozhangal is the second Indian film to win this prestigious award. Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s 2017 Malayalam film Sexy Durga had won it in 2017.
Director Vinothraj was overjoyed to have won the Award. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Feeling emotional!!! Pebbles won the Tiger Award 2021. Our Hard work, patience & Dream finally came true. Thank you all for your love and support.”
The International Film Festival Rotterdam is known for recognising independent and experimental films. Speaking about the movie, Koozhangal tells the story of a drunkard father and his son. It stars newcomers Karuththadaiyan and Chella Pandi. The film explores how father and son get back the mother, who has gone back to her parent’s house because of her abusive husband.
