It is very common for the people to sometimes opt for voting to NOTA, instead of voting for any party, due to their personal reasons. Sometimes, this could be because they don’t feel their interests are represented by any party, and sometimes they might not find any party to be worthy enough to be ruling.
Recently, Lawyer Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay filed a petition in the Supreme Court, regarding how NOTA should be considered during elections. After carefully considering this petition, the Supreme Court has now passed a judgement.
The Supreme Court said that if there are more NOTA votes in any constituency hereafter, then that particular constituency should go for a second round of elections, disregarding the first, as NOTA would have gotten more votes.
This is definitely going to be a huge thing for all the political parties in India to keep an eye out on, and make sure that they strive enough to get the people’s votes.
