Bollywoood actor Sunny Deol on Tuesday formally joined the Bharateeya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
Last week, he apparently met the BJP Chief Amit Shah at Pune airport.
After formally joining the party, speaking newsmen he recalled how his father, who was a super star during his hey days, Dharmendra, got connected to icon of BJP and former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, he too was inspired to do the same with the present PM Narendra Modi ji.
He said whatever good he can do for the BJP family, he will do it saying ‘I won’t talk, I will show you through my work,’ the Bollywood star said.
In all probability, the party may field Deol, the film star, from either Gurdaspur or Chandigarh in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. The film star has to his credit the latest hits such as ‘Ghayal’ and Damini’, which made exceedingly well at the box office.
Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat was in the past represented by another yesteryear Bollywood superstar of ‘80s late Vinod Khanna.
It may be worth mentioning here that Sunny Deol’s step-mother Hema Malini is also the BJP candidate from Mathura.
Sixty-two year old Ajay Singh Deol, better known as Sunny Deol, has acted in more than 90 films during his career span over three and half decades. He also won two national awards and two Film Fare awards as an actor.
