In a bizarre situation, a man’s expensive wedding suit tore at his wedding reception in front of the guests. Aggrieved over this, he complained to a city consumer forum, who then directed the clothing store to pay Rs. 80000 as compensation to the customer.
The consumer forum revealed that PujyaShri AN Clothing, a Raymond retail shop in Chennai committed deficiency of service and should compensate its customer SA Subramani.
Subramani’s petition read that he purchased Rs. 12,308 worth wedding suit on July 30, 2016. The store owner assured him that the suit was of high quality and would be durable for 10 years.
Initially, Subramani was not satisfied with any of the choices in the showroom. He was then suggested to buy clothes there and got them stitched in the same Raymond showroom for the same price.
But, when Subramani wore the suit at his wedding reception on September 4, 2016, he found out that the right-hand sleeves had ripped off with stitches coming apart. He then had to move to the consumer forum.
But the clothing store, denied the allegations saying that the tearing of coat was due to mishandling or negligence on the part of the customer.
But the consumer forum observed that the deficiency in goods has caused humiliation to the complainant. Hence, the forum directed the clothing shop and Raymond firm to jointly or severally pay Rs 80,000 to the Subramani.
