It is known that legendary singer, SP Balasubrahmanyam, shortly referred to as SPB sadly passed away in 2020 due to a severe case of Covid infection. Sadly, his serene voice that entertained and enthralled us for many decades is no longer with us.
However, with the onset of the AI revolution, there’s the possibility to recreate the voices of deceased singers and tune them for new songs.
Recently, this was seen in Manasalaiyo song from Vettaiyan when late Malaysia Vasudevan’s vocals were recreated through AI and used for it.
Anirudh recreated Vasudevan’s vocals using AI advancements and programmed the song which didn’t just reminisce the late singer but also became a chartbuster.
When asked if there’s a possibility of something like this being explored with SPB’s voice, his son SP Charan had a very affirmative response. He simply turned down the proposal right away.
“I am following the AI trends and stuff and am aware that voices are being recreated. But SPB garu is a maestro. Now that he’s physically not with us, let his voice also rest elsewhere. I wouldn’t let anyone recreate his voice on AI. Sure, it might sound good, but I don’t know if my father would’ve sang the song or not if he was alive. If so, how can I permit someone to use his vocals without him being present now?” Charan commented.
