Suriya, who is known for his solid fan base in the South film industry, has been invited to the Oscar organiser’s membership committee. The Jai Bhim actor is among the 397 new members invited this year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Apparently, Suriya is the first actor from Kollywood to get an invitation from the prestigious awards committee. Among the list, Suriya, Kajol and Reema Kagti will represent India this year.
Needless to say, Suriya got massive recognition from many parts of the world for his films like Jai Bhim and Soorarai Pottru.
In a statement, the Academy said the list includes artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
“The 2022 class is 44% women, 37% belong to underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 50% are from 53 countries and territories outside the United States,” the Academy said in the statement.
The Class of 2022 will include 71 Oscar nominees and 15 winners.
