Sampoornesh Babu is one of the popular actors in Telugu cinema. After a long gap, he is back with his new film Sodara that also has Sanjosh as the other lead. Mostly featuring newcomers, the film also has Babu Mohan in a key role. The film has released today and read our review here.
Story
The film is about two brothers played by Sampoornesh Babu and Sanjosh. Shampoo is the elder brother who does not find a bride. One fine day, he loses hope and says yes to a girl selected by his parents. The twist in the tale is the girl he said yes to is his brother’s lover. What will the brothers do now. How will the confusion get cleared. That forms the story of the film.
What about on screen performances?
After a long gap, Sampoo gets a good role. He plays the elder brother who loses his lover and is in a sad state. The manner in which he performed in emotional scenes was quite good to see in the film. However, he does not evoke any comedy in the film.
Sanjosh plays the main lead and he is just about okay. He looks a bit rustic in the begining of the film but as time passes, he is at ease in front of the camera and is decent.
Prachi Bansal plays the female lead and she is very beautiful and does her emotional role also quite well. All her emotional scenes in the second half are very good.
The other heroine, Aarthi is okay but looks a bit confused in the setup. Babu Mohan plays the hero’s father and it is good to see him on the big screen after a long gap.
Getup Sreenu gets a decent role and he evoked passable comedy. The rest of the characetrs are just about okay and do not contribute much in the setup.
What about off-screen talents?
Manmohan Manempally has directed the film which is a fmaily drama. His story is nohing new and the conflict point he chooses is decent and ends the first half in a decent manner.
But it is the screenplay which is a huge letdown. Just to narrate a simple point, the two love stories showcased do not have much effect in the proceedings.
Sunil Kashyap has composed the music and his songs qre very good and also gel quite well in the narrative. They have also been shot quite well.
Speaking of visuals, the production values in the film are decent and so was the background score. The dialogues are neat and so was the production design.
The pace of the film is quite slow and the predictablity factor is the biggest villain in the film. The key scenes are way too melodramatic and a bit over the top.
One gets a feeling why the director chose such a routine subject and narrrated it in an even dull manner. The last ten minutes are exciting but the manner in which the film ends with a lie is not that great.
The core emotion of pain in the love stories are completely missing in the film hereby making it a dull affiar for the audience. Had the drama been good, the effect would have been even better.
What’s Hot?
- Interval twist
- Prachi Bansal performance
What’s Not?
- Slow pace
- Over dramatic scenes
- Lack of string emotion
Verdict:
Overall, Sodara is an oudated film that has nothing new going its way. The performances are okay but the narration is old school and does not create much interest for the audience till the end.
