Sri Lanka men’s cricket team has registered its biggest accomplishment in recent times by defeating India in the T20I series. The host nation registered a comprehensive victory in the third T20I to clinch the series 2-1. This is the first time they won a bilateral T20 series since 2019.
Team India could only field its second or possibly even third string side in 2nd and 3rd T20s, due to the Covid protocol. Krunal Pandya, who had tested positive for Covid was obviously unavailable for selection and even those in close contact with the player weren’t permitted to play. This meant that India had to field a largely inexperienced side.
Sri Lanka won the 3rd T20 yesterday by 7 wickets and clinched the series.
Nevertheless, Sri Lanka managed to register an emphatic victory against India, albeit a depleted side. After losing the ODI series, the T20 series victory should come as great news to Sri Lanka team and its fans.
The focus is now England vs India test series which will be commencing on 4th August.
