The producers’ council of Tollywood took a collective decision to halt the shooting of all the films currently being shot in Telugu from August 1st so that the producers can sit together and assess what’s going wrong in the industry, given that not a single film has been able to make a huge impact in recent times, with the exception of big-ticket films like RRR and KGF 2.
Despite the fact that stalling shootings would cause a major problem for producers in the industry, as they have crores of rupees invested in a film, the producers of the industry have decided to stall the shootings for the bigger good of the industry. Apart from the fact that films aren’t working very well in theatres, the producers of Tollywood have a lot of problems to sort through, which might take a while, for which this decision has been taken. The decisions that the AP government took further worsened the situation for filmmakers, and while the Telangana government stood by the industry, the audience weren’t ready to go to the theatre unless and until the content they were being offered is good enough.
On the other hand, the fact that a lot of people are dependent on the film industry for their day-to-day works is undeniable. These people will be the worst hit during this period. Given that no one knows when the issues will be resolved in these meetings, it’s not known when shootings will resume, which will cause a major problem for daily wage workers. It is now to be seen if any new problems will arise because of this decision, for Tollywood filmmakers, or if things will actually become better after shootings resume.
