Story
Sriram (Rupesh), a sincere and principled public prosecutor, often lands in trouble because of his blunt honesty. His life takes a turn when Janaki (Aakanksha Singh) approaches him with a land issue, which he successfully resolves. Love blossoms between them, and they plan to marry. However, things take an emotional turn when Sriram’s parents (Rajendra Prasad and Archana) decide to part ways. What happens next is the basic story of the film.
What about on-screen performances?
Rajendra Prasad is a pro when it comes to such roles and he gives a memorable performance in the film. It is his screen presence and emotional performance that leads the pack.
Yesteryear actress Archana makes a comeback with this film, and she is very good. Her character gives a new look and brings a lot of depth to the film.
The chemistry between Archana and Rajendra Prasad is very good in the film. They deliver as a team, and whenever they are on screen, things look quite good.
Aakanksha Singh is the surprise package of the film and is very good in the film. Her role is polished, and she does well in the proceedings. She is good in emotional scenes.
Rupesh, who plays the lead, is also decent. Though he is new, Rupesh manages to hold up well. The body language and dialogue delivery need to improve a bit.
What about off-screen performances?
Pawan Prabha has directed the film and has made sure that he narrates a fairly simple story in an engaging manner. The basic premise and setup of Shashtipoorthi are good.
But it is the music of Ilaiyaraaja that makes a lot of difference in the narrative. The songs are good, and so is his background score, which brings a good feel to the film.
The production values and artwork showcasing the social drama are quite good. The dialogues are meaningful, and those written for Rajendra Prasad are quite effective.
The emotional scenes and how the parents of the hero separate are handled well. But things take a lot of time for the director to come to the actual point.
The routine scenes of family drama are a bit of a letdown and do not give away anything new to the setup. If the director would have stuck to the plot, the output would have been good.
The social message that is given is quite good. For such films to work at the box office, emotions need to be very strong, but that is not the case as the film has several deviations.
What’s Hot?
- Performances
- Ilaiyaraaja music
- Some family scenes
What’s Bad?
- Slow pace
- Rourine story
- Predictable ending
Verdict
Overall, Shashtipoothi is a family drama that has a decent moments when it sticks to its genre. But the moment it changes track and deals with other elements, it becomes routine. All those who like social dramas can give the film a shot.
