It is known that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) called for a statewide Bandh in Andhra Pradesh today after the party’s head office in Guntur was vandalised by a mob on Tuesday.
Police have placed TDP leaders under house arrest across the state in the wake of the party’s call for a state bandh. Leaders who came out of their houses in several places are being arrested.
TDP leaders staged a protest at the RTC complex in Srikakulam in the wake of the bandh call. Police have detained several leaders, including MP Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and former MLA Lakshmi Devi. A huge police force has been deployed at former minister Kala Venkatrao’s residence.
In the Visakhapatnam district too, several TDP leaders were arrested in advance. TNSF state president Pranab Mukherjee, along with 10 TDP leaders, was arrested. Protests also continued in the Visakhapatnam agency area.
Former MLA Aithabathula Anandarao has been placed under house arrest in Amalapuram in East Godavari district. Former minister Devineni Uma was arrested by the police in Gollapudi.
The party activists blocked the Nellore-Kadapa National Highway. This caused heavy traffic congestion on the route. Police arrested several leaders who were carrying out the agitation. Protests continued in Rayalaseema districts as well. Police have arrested TDP leaders for obstructing buses in Rajampet, Kadapa district.
