The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the producers of Gautamiputra Satakarni for not reducing the ticket prices of the NBK starrer despite getting tax exemption from state governments.
A petition was filed in the Supreme Court by the Consumers’ Association of Movie Audiences that Gautamiputra Satakarni had received tax concession but not reduced ticket prices. Since it is a historical film, the makers asked for tax concession for the Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer and the state governments of AP and Telangana announced tax concession.
The association alleged that the benefits of tax concession were not passed on to the moviegoers. It appealed to the apex court that tax concession money should be recovered by the government.
The bench of Justice DY Chandrachud took up the hearing on this petition. After hearing the arguments, the court issued notices to producers, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments. Y. Rajeev Reddy and Jagarlamudi Saibabu jointly produced Gautamiputra Satakarni under the First Frame Entertainment banner.
