Due to the lock down, theaters across the country are shutting down all the releases and many of them have been on a back burner. Also it is not yet known whether the government will permit to open the theaters if the lock down ends. As a result, producers are making efforts to release some short films directly through digital media (OTT).
There was a recent buzz that the film Naragasasuran would be released directly in OTT platform like Amazon prime. It features an ensemble cast lead by Aravind swamy, Shriya Saran and Sandeep Kishan in the Tamil movie. The film is being dubbed in Telugu as Narakasurudhu and this rare combo was well received by the film buffs.
The film’s release, which was produced by Karthik Naren, was round the corner. However, it was postponed due to financial obligations. It was actually scheduled for release on March 27. But with an untimely twist owing to Corona’s effect, the theaters were shut down and the film’s release has been shelved. With this the gossip-mongers spread rumours that the film is going to be released in amazon prime directly.
Nonetheless, there are some Tamil film critics who assert that the news is not true. “There is no official statement from the film production company,” cinema critic and trade analyst Satish Kumar tweeted. In fact, Amazon Prime Video has not released any announcement on the release of the film as well.
A similar incident happened with the film ‘V’starring Nani. The movie was scheduled for release on 25th March. However, it was not released due to nationwide lock down and meanwhile news crop up out of blue that Amazon prime video has offered 35 crores to producer Dil Raju for releasing on their platform. But buzz is that the producer has rejected the offer and wants to release the film in the theaters alone. As of now there’s no official confirmation about this project too.
