On-screen performances:
Literally, R Madhavan kept his heart and soul for the film which is nearly visible on screen. Right from his makeup to the way he carried the proceedings, everything elevates the mood of the film nicely. His commendable acting is a major plus for the film.
Actress Simran gets a meaty role as Madhavan’s wife. Her acting in a few key scenes in the second half adds realistic flavour to the film. Other actors who did supporting roles perfectly fit in their respective roles and were impressive with their acting.
Special mention about two persons. While one of them is star hero Suriya, the other one is Nambiar Narayan himself. Though Suriya did an extended cameo role, his acting leaves an impression on the audience. His acting during the climax portion brings depth to the proceedings. Coming to Nambiar Narayan, the emotional conversation of this ISRO scientist during the ending episodes elevates the mood of the film nicely.
Off-screen Talents:
Firstly, the music by Sam CS is the biggest asset of this biographical drama. While the film has a couple of situational songs and are passable on screen, the background score is done in a superb manner.
The editing work by Bijith Bala is nice as he made sure that the film has any unwanted scenes. On the other hand, the cinematography work by Sirsha Ray is too good as he brought the 90s feel to the film with his framing and lighting setup.
While the production design work is superbly done, the production values are nice for this tight-budget movie.
Positive Points:
- R Madhavan
- Emotional second half
Negative Points
- Slow-paced first half
- Non-commercial approach
Verdict:
In an overview, Rocketry- The Nambi Effect is a biographical drama on Rocket scientist Nambiar Narayan. R Madhavan’s acting and his direction are a major plus for the film but the lack of commercial elements might not get universal acceptance.
