Revu is a film that has caught the imagination of one and all. The village drama has mostly newcomers and is about a few fishermen and their fight for the best catch. Harinath Puli has directed this film which was produced by Murali Ginjupalli, and Naveen Parupalli. The film is out now and read our review to find out if the film has enough meat in it to savor.
Story
Revu tells the story of Ankalu (Vamsi Ram Pendyala) and Gangaiah (Ajay), two fishermen from the coastal village of Palarevu, who are locked in a fierce rivalry over who can catch the most fish. The situation takes an unexpected turn when Nagesu (Yepuri Hari), a wealthy newcomer, arrives in the village with his new boat. His presence shakes up the community, affecting the lives of everyone. The story explores how ambition and the desire for power impact the people in this close-knit village.
What about on-screen performances?
Vamsi Ram Pendyala plays the main lead and he is decent in his role. Though it takes time for us to register for his screen presence, once it does, we get along with his character quite well. The young actor has worked hard on his diction and is good in a few emotional scenes.
Ajay gets a powerful role and his screen presence is quite good in the film. His role brings depth to the film and he has been showcased well. His scenes with Vamsi Ram have been executed well.
Swathi Bheemi Reddy is good in her role. She has some magic in her eyes but the director should have used her screen presence a bit more. Yepuri Hari, who plays the main villain is just about okay and needs improvement with his expressions.
Sumesh Madhavan and Hemanth Udbhav as the main villain’s henchmen were okay. The rest of the cast was new, but one feels that more seasoned actors would have taken the film to another level.
What about off-screen talents?
Revu is a village drama with a perfect subject. Films with fishermen have been made multiple times. But the way the film has been set in the contemporary world with today’s egos is quite good in the film.
One of the biggest assets of the film is the visuals. The fisherman, their catch, and the riverside visuals of romance, action, and drama have been elevated quite well by the director Harinath Puli.
The first half does not showcase much and in a way builds up the conflict point. But things change with a solid interval bang which sets things nicely for a gripping second half. The transition is showcased in a good way.
Having said that one also gets a feeling that the director wastes too much time to come to the actual conflict point. Also, in the second half, there is so much lag in the scenes and the drama is also not arresting.
The background score of the film is pretty good. The screenplay should have been more gripping in the first half. Many scenes shine but there is also a lingering factor about the film’s predictability.
Also, too much violence is boring after a point. To make things look raw, the makers have added so much action which looks boring after a point and has been elevated for no reason.
What’s Hot?
- Basic backdrop
- Visuals
- Some action episodes
What’s Not?
- Lag in pace
- Dull first half
- Weak drama
Verdict
Overall, Revu is a rustic village drama that has an interesting backdrop. The action blocks are good but after a point, too much focus is on violence rather than drama. Also, the film takes a slow start to get to its forte. But for a film filled with newcomers, they have done an okay job.
