We have been seeing that in Bollywood, movies with strong female leads like Gangubai Kathiawadi and Manikarnika did well at the box office. What mattered in these films is Content more than the gender. However, in South India, especially Tamil Nadu, female-oriented movies haven’t been successful. For instance, the biopic of their beloved leader, Jayalalitha whom they call as ‘Amma’, didn’t perform well. Thalaivi, starring Kangana Ranaut, struggled at the box office despite high expectations.
A strong buzz is surrounding that a Tamil film called Rainbow featuring Rashmika Mandanna was put on hold after shooting some scenes. This lady-centric film is shot for 20 days and is said to be shelved keeping in mind the dull prospects.
However, she is now working on a Telugu film called The Girlfriend which focuses on female characters. Unlike in Tamil cinema, where female-centric films have faced challenges, there’s no obstacle for this film in Tollywood. In the past, movies like Mahanati and Baby proved that female-centric films can be successful in Tollywood.
Rashmika is currently working for the highly anticipated film Pushpa-The Rule. Additionally, it is being said that she is in talks to work with Prabhas in a big-budget project being directed by Sandeep Vanga. And there’s another exciting film with Tamil star Dhanush, directed by renowned Telugu filmmaker Sekhar Kammula.
