The Ramateertham temple in Andhra Pradesh had to bear witness to one of the most tragic and upsetting incidents last year when Lord Ram’s idol was decapitated and the pieces of the idol were thrown into a river.
The worst part of this was that the Lord Ram idol was the main idol to which prayers were offered, in the sanctum sanctorum. The vandalization of this idol upset the devotees and worshippers of the temple greatly, and the Hindu society deeply, who raged on the government, for the government not being able to protect the temple properly.
After the attack on the main deity, the Police department increased the security around the temple and even installed surveillance cameras. High technology was said to be in use around the temple, to protect it as much as they can.
Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivas said, today, that the reconstructed Ramateertham temple would be inaugurated in January next year. The temple has been reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 3 Crores. He said that Aagamasastra is being implemented in the construction of the temple, and that stone cutters from Chilakaluripeta would be employed in the construction of the temple, as it is being planned to be a fully stone structure. On this occasion, the Minister also released a model of the upcoming temple.
MP Bellana Chandrasekhar and MLA Badukonda Appalanaidu accompanied Vellampalli during his visit to the temple and offered their prayers to the lord.
