Gopichand teamed up with director Sriwass for the third time, after the success of their previous films, Lakshyam and Loukyam, for Ramabanam, which has been released today. Let’s see how the movie has turned out to be.
Story: Vicky is a violent child, who is sent away from the house by his brother, as Vicky brings in a lot of trouble through his violent ways. Vicky turns out to be a don in Kolkata and falls in love with a girl. To be able to be with the girl, Vicky has to get back to his family, which is going through several troubles. What are those troubles and how does Vicky manage to save his family and get his love forms the rest of the story.
On-Screen Performances:
Gopichand looks neat but is given a character that has shades of so many other characters of his from the past. This leaves the actor with nothing new to do. Despite that, it’s good seeing the actor again on the big screen.
Leading lady Dimple Hayathi is fine, but doesn’t have a lot to do in the film.
Jagapathi Babu is good enough in his role, and he perfectly fits the bill as Gopichand’s brother. Khusbu Sundar is alright in her role. The rest of the supporting cast is passable in their roles. The villains do their job decently, but have nothing new to offer, as there is no scope.
Off-Screen Talents:
Director Sriwass has been advertising Ramabanam as a complete entertainer from the very beginning and has been stressing on the family values that the movie has. In reality, with the exception of a few comedy scenes in the first half, which are entertaining, the rest of the film is very formulaic and doesn’t have anything new to offer at all. The brother sentiment scenes between Jagapathi Babu and Gopichand also do not work out as well as the makers would have probably intended them to. All this leaves the audience with a very subpar film.
The music and background score by Mickey J Meyer is alright. While it suits the scenes, it doesn’t help the film in any way. The production values are top-notch, and the fact that the producers didn’t hold back clearly shows.
The cinematography of the film is good, but the editing could have been much better.
Plus Points:
- Comedy scenes in the first half
Minus Points:
- Routine story and screenplay
- Boring template of the movie
Verdict: Ramabanam had a promising premise, and while it may not be anything new, if the screenplay were written in an entertaining way, it could have been a much better film. As a result, the film turns out to be a below average affair.
