“Raju Weds Rambai,” starring Akhil and Tejaswi, is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on November 21. Presented by ETV Win Originals and produced by Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi under Dolamukhi Subaltern Films and Monsoon Tales, the film is directed by Saailu Kaampati. Vamsi Nandipati Entertainment and Bunny Vas Works are releasing the film in theaters, while Dr. Nageswara Rao Poojari presents it.
Producers Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi revealed that the story is inspired by a shocking real-life incident that took place between Khammam and Warangal districts. Venu said director Sailu, who had worked with him earlier, narrated the story one day, and its emotional depth moved him instantly. He felt the incident was unlike any other honor killing or love story tragedy seen before, and that uniqueness pushed him to produce the film. Although rooted in real events, the script has been shaped with strong mainstream appeal, ensuring an engaging and entertaining experience for audiences.
Venu explained that the film avoids using the real names or the actual village involved, but it stays honest to the emotional truth. The team wanted a rustic and earthy music score, and Venu felt only composer Suresh Bobbili could deliver it. He also shared that casting the lead pair was crucial—while Akhil was finalized quickly, the search for the right Telugu actress ended with Tejaswi, who impressed them immediately. Workshops were conducted with the lead actors and local villagers to keep the performances raw and natural. Chaitanya, who plays the heroine’s father, was selected through auditions and surprised the team with his strong screen presence. Only later did they discover he is actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s brother.
Venu believes films like “Baby,” “7G Brundavan Colony,” “Sairat,” and “Premisthe” stayed in people’s hearts because of their emotional depth, and “Raju Weds Rambai” will join that list. He assures that although it is based on a tragic incident, the movie will leave audiences with a positive and hopeful mood. He hopes parents watching the film may become more understanding about their children’s love choices. Venu also revealed future plans, including adapting Keshava Reddy’s writings into a series and directing a film under the UV Films banner.
Producer Rahul Mopidevi said the real incident happened 15 years ago and is still spoken about in the region. Since director Sailu comes from the same area, he shaped it into a cinematic story with added drama. The team shot the film in the actual village where the incident took place, facing challenges such as no mobile network, long travel, heavy rains, and even a bridge collapse that forced the 80-member crew to stay overnight in the village. Rahul praised Akhil and Tejaswi for delivering impressive performances, especially with the Telangana dialect. He said his experience in TV production helped him handle the shoot efficiently, and now the film is set for release across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
With its emotional core, rooted backdrop, strong performances, and real-life inspiration, “Raju Weds Rambai” aims to become a memorable love story for today’s audience.
