Raju Weds Rambai is a 2025 Telugu-language love story and rural drama written and directed by Saailu Kaampati. The film has Akhil Raj Uddemari & Tejaswi Rao playing the lead roles while Shivaji Raja, Chaitu Jonnalagadda, Anitha Chowdary, Kavitha Srirangam, Vikram, Alex, Sairam, & others are seen in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Suresh Bobbili while the film is produced by Venu Udugula & Rahul Mopidevi under Dolamukhi Subaltern Films, Monsoon Tales & ETV Win banners.

Story:

Raju (Akhil Raj) is a cheerful and carefree young man who plays the band for all the events in the village. Raju loves Rambai (Tejaswi Rao) from childhood and confesses it to her one day.

Rambai, on the other hand, loves to see Raju playing the band, and as they keep meeting often, she also falls for Raju and loves him just as deeply. But their love hits a wall when Rambai’s father, a compounder at the village hospital, refuses their match.

How Raju and Rambai fight against odds to protect their love forms the heart of this rural drama.

What about on-screen performances?

Tejaswi Rao is the standout performer among all. She looks the part and is perfectly cast as Rambai. With no makeup and a natural look, she embodies the simplicity of a true rural character. She gives out an excellent performance and particularly shines in the pre-climax portions.

Akhil Raj Uddemari also does well as the lover who burns with anger and pain. He is especially good in all the sweet yet romantic bits, but he does need to improve a bit when he does the angry and emotional scenes. Overall, it is a passable act, and his chemistry with Tejaswi works well.

Chaitu Jonnalagadda is terrific as Venkanna, portraying an arrogant father who shows anger due to his physically handicapped leg. His efforts to play the character in a realistic manner are seen in every scene, and he does it with ease. He is exceptionally good in all the scenes with his daughter and wife.

Shivaji Raja impresses as the hero’s father, while Anitha Chowdary does well as the hero’s mother. It could’ve been even better if Anitha could’ve dubbed for the role, as her dubbing voice felt odd at times.

Kavitha Srirangam leaves a mark as the heroine’s mother, while Vikram, Alex, Sairam, & all others are fine in their limited roles.

What about off-screen talents?

The film was promoted as a story based on real events from a rural village. The story by Saailu Kaampati lacks freshness. Except for the final surprising plot point, the rest of the film gives us a routine feeling.

The screenplay also follows the regular rural-love tropes, with a predictable father-as-the-conflict angle. It could’ve been better if the village scenes & love track were written and dealt in a not-so-familiar manner, as the scenes look similar to some of the love stories that have come out in the past in the same genre with the same rural set-up.

Director Saailu Kaampati does an okay job with his presentation, although his narrative lacks clarity at times. His slight lack of grip over a few emotional moments becomes noticeable in the film. For instance, after the hero and heroine take a bold step to get married, the conflict is resolved a bit too easily in the narrative through the heroine’s father’s character, making the scene feel less impactful.  Also, the emotions in the climax could’ve been presented in a much deeper manner, which is a failed opportunity.

The dialogues are good. A few emotional lines are well written, but the hero repeatedly quotes a WWE dialogue throughout the film, which remains unclear why he says it or what purpose it serves.

Suresh Bobbili delivers a decent background score, and the songs work well in the first half, especially the ‘Rambai Neemeedha Naku’ song, which went viral even before the film’s release. But there are a couple of unwanted sad bit songs in the second half which could’ve been avoided.

The cinematography by Wajid Baig is excellent, showcasing the beauty of remote village life throughout the film. Lush green fields, hills, and rural landscapes are captured beautifully.

Editing by Naresh Adupa is not up to the mark. The second half feels slightly stretched and a few scenes could have been trimmed in a more shaper way.

The artwork by Gandhi Nadikudikar and the costumes by Priyanka V & Aarthi Vinnakota are good.

The production values by Dolamukhi Subaltern Films, Monsoon Tales & ETV Win are adequate.

What’s Hot?

* Tejaswi Rao’s Performance
* Akhil Raj’s Performance
* Chaitu Jonnalagadda’s Performance
* Shocking & Moving Last 20 Minutes
* Rambai Neemeedha Naku Song
* Decent Background Score
* Cinematography

What’s Not?

* Lacks Freshness With The Setting & Plot
* Routine Rural Love Tropes & Conflict
* Patchy Editing At A Few Places
* Unwanted Sad Songs In Second Half
* Dragged Out Narrative
* Overuse of John Cena Dialogue

Verdict: Overall, Raju Weds Rambai is a watchable rural love story carried almost entirely by its climax, making the final act the film’s only real standout, along with the natural performances of the lead pair and Chaitu Jonnalagadda. If you love rural love stories with a realistic touch, then you can give it a try.
