Ben Stokes, Rajasthan Royals all-rounder, has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Stokes injured his left index finger while fielding in the first match against Punjab Kings.
The all-rounder sustained the injury when he dived forward to take Chris Gayle’s catch in the 10th over of the Kings’ innings.
“Subsequent investigations revealed he sustained a broken finger, which will, unfortunately, rule him out of the rest of the Indian Premier League 2021 season,” Rajasthan Royals said in an official statement.
The team also announced that Stokes has decided to stay with the team and they will soon look for a replacement for the injured player.
It is worth mentioning that Stokes also missed some games for RR last season after flying to New Zealand to be with his sick father. But, this time, the 29-year-old cricketer will stay with the team to provide his valued support.
